Un character design artist se focalise sur les personnages d’un film ou d’un jeu-vidéo. Il va créer des personnages principaux comme secondaires. Parmi ses points forts on compte la maîtrise des expressions corporelles et faciales, de l’anatomie, un sens aïgu du style et des capacités à insuffler de la vie à ses créations. Il doit être capable de créer des personnages originaux dans un cadre donné.

Morphology : La morphologie concerne la forme générale et les proportions visibles d’un personnage. Elle définit la silhouette, les volumes, et le langage des formes (rondes, carrées, triangulaires) qui traduisent la personnalité et le rôle. Anatomy : L’anatomie s’intéresse à la structure interne du corps : os, muscles, articulations. Elle sert à rendre les poses crédibles et les mouvements naturels, même dans des styles stylisés.
